Nominees sought for local service awards

The Community Volunteer Awards Committee is seeking nominations for recipients for the 17th annual event, scheduled for Dec. 3 at the Los Altos Youth Center.

Nominees should reside in Los Altos or Los Altos Hills and show a history of volunteerism.

The deadline for returning nominations is Oct. 29. Send suggestions to Community Volunteer Awards Committee, P.O. Box 1851, Los Altos 94023.

New training sessions for museum docents

The Los Altos History House Museum welcomes new docents to lead tours of the house. Training sessions are scheduled for Oct. 20 and Nov. 17. For more information, call 948-9427 or 941-0950, ext. 126.

Harvest Craft Faire at United Methodist

The Harvest Craft Faire, an annual event at Los Altos United Methodist Church, will be held 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, at the church.

More than 40 local artisans will display their wares, along with hand-made items by the women of the church. An elegant luncheon will be held noon, Oct. 22.

A supper featuring a variety of homemade soups will be served from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Oct. 22, and a Saturday cafe will feature sandwiches, pizza and desserts from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The church is located at the corner of Magdalena Avenue and Foothill Expressway in Los Altos.

Computer guru at LAH meeting

The Los Altos Hills Historical Society features Oliver Dyla as its guest speaker at the next society meeting, scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday at Los Altos Hills Town Hall, 26379 Fremont Road.

Dyla, a student at Gunn High School in Palo Alto, will speak on how computers will become "super fast" in the year 2000. With graphics and charts, he'll explain the Kryotech Vapor phase refrigeration technology. Dyla runs his own company, Techno Inside, and has an extensive background in computer maintenance and management.
