The Los Altos High School Athletic Boosters are selling pumpkins in the school's parking lot, 201 Almond Ave. Proceeds will be used to help support the Los Altos High athletic program. The pumpkin patch is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Oct. 31.

Good start for Aztecs

The Alta Vista volleyball team opened its season with 15-11, 15-7, 15-3 home win over El Rancho Verde Oct. 7. Alta Vista is a continuation high school serving students in Los Altos and Mountain View. The Aztecs' co-ed team is coached by John Figueroa.

Climbing to the top

The Twisters indoor rock climbing team won the Summit Challenge Oct. 9. Mountain View-based Twisters scored 34 points to easily beat second-place Sunrise (19). Division winners from Twisters were Lauren Ringelman (12-13 girls), Jesse Blaine (14-16 girls), Reed Garber (under-11 boys) and Bruce Andreau (14-16 boys). Second-place finishers included Los Altans Elliot Wang (under-11 boys) and Rebecca Strickfaden (under-11 girls).

'Home Run' trot

Home Run 99, a 5K and 10K run benefiting the Stanford chapter of Habitat for Humanity, is set for Sunday at Stanford Stadium. Race-day registration starts at 7:45 a.m. The 5K run begins at 9 a.m. and the 10K is at 9:30 a.m. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age division for both men and women. Playing time

The Palo Alto Jewish Community Center is taking sign-ups for its Fall 3-on-3 Basketball League, which plays 4:30-6 p.m., Sundays. Open to those age 40 and over and "couch potatoes" are welcome.
