Foothill Roundup
Women's water polo
The Foothill College women's golf team has adopted a motto this year: TIAB2K.
That stands for "Take It All Before 2000." As in take the state championship - something the Owls have come close to doing the past three seasons. Foothill placed third in the state in 1998, '97 and '96.
Coach Elaine Rotty is hopeful that this is the year the Owls go from third to first. Rotty said she's "really excited about the team." It's not hard to see why.
The Owls return three key players: AnnMarie Lee, Valerie Carlos and Barbara Arden. Lee placed third in the state championship last season, while Carlos and Arden are steady players and the team's co-captains this year.
Rotty also has some promising new players on the roster. Michelle Jensen was a member of St. Francis High's Central Coast Section championship team last spring. Twins Annie and Elizabeth Milam played on the boys team at Leland High School last season. Diane Milner of San Mateo and Kathy Challice of Santa Cruz have been solid additions as well.
Foothill, which opened its season Aug. 30 by winning the Coast Conference kick-off tournament at Shoreline in Mountain View, is on pace to do what it did last year: capture the conference title without a loss.
The Owls went to 7-0 on the season Oct. 12 with a decisive win at Twelve Bridges Golf Course. Foothill posted a team score of 347 to beat Fresno (365), Sierra (406) and Sacramento City (410). Lee led the Owls with an 82, while Elizabeth Milam and Milner each shot 85.
Foothill's next tee time is 12:30 p.m., Thursday at Shoreline against Modesto and Sierra. The Owls wrap up their conference schedule Tuesday at Butte.
Foothill dropped its first conference game last Thursday, falling 11-6 to host American River. The Owls then took part in the River City Invitational over the weekend and lost two of their three games.
Mountain View grad Amie Prichard, who had a team-high four goals in Thursday's game, scored a team-best 10 goals in the tournament.
The Owls entered this week at 6-1 in conference, 10-6 overall.
