Martin / Town Crier Staff WriterThe El Camino Hospital Board meeting Wednesday was quick and quiet. The board approved four El Camino Hospital Foundation Board of Governor appointees, as well as equipment purchases and a facility upgrade project. The new board members join the El Camino Hospital Foundation for three-year terms, beginning Nov. 18. The new board members are: James W. Bare, who has worked in various project management positions for IBM for 27 years; Dr. Jonathan Kelley, an anesthesiologist who has worked at El Camino Hospital since 1975; Gerald Moorman, a certified public accountant and partner in Moorman and Company; and Dr. Volney Van Dalsem, chairman and medical director of radiology services at El Camino Hospital. Owen Auerlio, chief operations officer at El Camino presented purchase requests to replace existing equipment. The approved equipment includes 23 new hemodialysis machines at a cost not to exceed $287,500, and two cath lab stations totaling $327,254. Hemodialysis machines are used to purify blood, usually in the treatment of kidney disease. Cath lab stations monitor and measure various data during cardiac catheterization procedures. Auerlio also requested, and was granted $299,949 for changing nursing units to mother-and-baby-care rooms. El Camino Hospital deliveries have increased from 2,949 in 1992 to 4,226 in 1998, and patient demand for private rooms has also increased. |
