The Cupertino Union School District is holding a school funding forum from 7:30-9 p.m., tonight at Garden Gate Elementary School, 10500 Ann Arbor Ave. in Cupertino.
The forum will address equity in school funding and how low funding affects the Cupertino district, which is the lowest funded district in Santa Clara County and ranks among the bottom four districts in the state for funding, according to school officials.
'Safe Schools' forum at Notre Dame college
The College of Notre Dame will host the forum, "Safe Schools: What Will it Take?," from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday at the college's Theatre, 1500 Ralston Ave., Belmont.
This is the first in a series of events designed to address strategies for achieving safer schools.
Steve Staveley, of California's Department of Justice, will be the keynote speaker. Admission is $10. Advance registration is recommended. For more information, call 508-3645.
LAHS band competition
The Los Altos High School marching band will perform its field show for the community at 11 a.m., Saturday at the school's football Field.
A $2 donation is requested.
The band is scheduled to compete in the Pacific Grove Band Competition, Nov. 6. The parade competition will take place in the morning and the field show in the evening. This is the last competition of the season.
Los Altos High School recenlty competed int he Cupertino Tournament of Bands, winning several awards.
Santa Rita holds 'Witches' Delight'
Santa Rita School will hold its 39th annual "Witches' Delight Halloween Carnival" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday at the school, 700 Los Altos Ave.
Organizers say the event, which was launched for the sole purpose of providing children a safe and fun holiday event, has historically attracted hundreds of families.
This year's event will feature carnival games, including "Phantom Football" and "Ghoulfish," as well as a haunted house built and hosted by the sixth-grade class. Clarke's Charcoal Broiler and Chef Chu's will provide food.
Admission to the carnival is free. Game tickets are 25 cents.
Parents' group holds 'Testing Maze' forum
The Community Advisory Council of Los Altos High School will hold a forum "The Testing Maze," on the educational testing process at 7:30 p.m., tonight in Choir Room 215 on the school campus.
Brigitte Sarraf, associate superintendent of educational services, will present student results of the SAT, SAT II, AP and STAR test.

Mountain View High School will hold its annual Homecoming parade 9 a.m., Saturday on Castro Street in downtown Mountain View.
The parade will feature the school's marching band, floats and the homecoming court.

The Underground open for Halloween
The Los Altos Recreation Department's teen center, the Underground, will be open for Halloween from 3-9 p.m., Sunday.
The center will feature the showing of Halloween-themed movies and free candy and hot dogs as well as pool, ping pong, foosball and Nintendo 64.

Creative writers' series at Notre Dame College
Poets W.S. Di Piero and Majid Naficy will be featured at the College of Notre Dame's Creative Writers' Series at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 4 at the school's Wiegand Art Gallery, 1500 Ralston Ave., Belmont.
Di Piero, a native of south Philadelphia, is a frequent contributor to Threepenney Review and TriQuarterly. Naficy, an Iranian refugee living in Southern California, has published several volumes of poetry as well as children's fiction and political essays.
Admission is free.
El Camino Auxiliary announces scholarships
El Camino Hospital Auxiliary is offering scholarships to permanent residents of California who wish to pursue a hospital-related health professional career. Graduating high school seniors and full-time college students enrolled in an accredited California college or university who live in Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills or Cupertino may apply.
Scholarships will be awarded based on financial need, scholastic achievement and career potential.
Applications are available at El Camino Hospital Auxiliary Office, local high school career centers, local college financial aid offices, and the main libraries in Mountain View, Los Altos, Sunnyvale and Cupertino.
Madrigal Choir for holiday events
Mountain View High School's Madrigal Choir is available to perform concerts of 30-45 minutes at local holiday events.
Directed by Jill Denny, the 26-member choir has won numerous awards for its performances.
The choir, dressed in black and gold Renaissance attire, performs a varied repertoire including madrigals, traditional and modern holiday music.
A demo CD is available for preview.
Donations for $150 to $500 are requested for holiday performances. All proceeds will help pay for the choir's upcoming competition in New York.
