Hebrew Day School holds open house

South Peninsula Hebrew Day School will hold its first kindergarten open house for the 2000-01 school year at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 16 at the school's Sunnyvale campus, 1030 Asotria Drive.

The school expanded its half-day kindergarten program to a full day, allowing more time for English and Hebrew studies. The curriculum includes core subject, art, music, cooking, drama, dance as well as Hebrew, Shabbat and holiday programs.

Student projects wanted for fair

Youth Focus Inc. is seeking students to exhibit their classroom work, art and science projects at its "Winter Fest Youth Fair" from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 20-21, 26-28 at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. The fair is open to all stuents in Santa Clara County. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Deadline for entry is 5 p.m., next Monday at the Youth Focus office, 1620 Fruitdale Ave., San Jose.

Oak School hosts local book fair

Oak School will host the Scholastic Book Fair Nov. 17-20 in the school library, 1501 Oak Ave., Los Altos.

The fair will feature books and learning products from more than 150 publishers.

The fair will run from 3-4 p.m., Nov. 17; from noon to 1 p.m. and 3-5:30 p.m, Nov. 18; from 11a.m. to 7 p.m., Nov. 19; and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 20.

Proceeds will benefit the school's library project.

Admission is free.

Notre Dame holds degree program forum

The College of Notre Dame will host an information forum exploring its bachelor's degree program and credential program for working adults at 6 p.m., Nov. 10 in Ralston Hall, 1500 Ralston Ave., Belmont.

Lewis & Clark to visit local schools

An admission representative from Lewis & Clark College in Oregon will visit local schools this month to answer questions about the college and discuss admissions opportunities with students.

The representative will visit the following schools: Mountain View High School at 1:35 p.m., Friday; Homestead High School at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday; Los Altos High School at 9:45 a.m., Tuesday; St. Francis High School at noon, Nov. 9.

Score! launches educational Web site

Score! Educational Centers launched a Web site last month that will provide personalized educational resources and services for parents with children up to 18 years old.

Through the Web site, Score! will develop an evolving profile for each child, based on the person's age, interests, skills and academic performance.

Educational cruises for local students

Students in grades 4-8 could take part in a free, 3-hour educational cruise out of the Santa Cruz Harbor. O'Neill Sea Odyssey, a nonprofit organization, provides free educational cruises to students in Santa Clara County in exchange for performing a community service project.

The program was established four years ago to encourage the protection and preservation of the living sea and local communities.

Teachers interested in taking part in the program, should submit a two-paragraph fax explaining how the program would fit into their curriculum and what type of community service project their students could perform in exchange for their experience aboard the catamaran.

Classes will be chosen based on their project ideas.
