The Eagles (5-1) held a one-game lead over Del Mar (4-2) going into Tuesday's home game with Westmont. Los Altos concludes its league season at 2:45 p.m., Thursday at San Jose. The Eagles beat both Westmont and San Jose last month. "If things continue and we win these two games we should be in the CCS playoffs," Los Altos coach Gerri Baldwin said last week. St. Francis dropped its first Santa Teresa Division game of the season last Friday, falling 3-2 to host Leigh. The Lancers (8-1, 11-2-4) received goals from Betsy Butterick and Michelle Lovejoy. Girls Golf St. Francis qualified for the CCS playoffs Oct. 26 by winning the Peninsula Athletic League championship tournament at Silver Creek Country Club. The Lancers shot 269 to beat runner-up Menlo-Atherton by 37 strokes. Linda Baek led St. Francis with a 79 and teammate Eloise Vicencio took second place with an 86. Boys Water Polo Los Altos improved to 3-1 in the SCVAL De Anza Division Oct. 26 by routing Saratoga 17-2 at Eagle Park. Christian Hansen scored four goals to pace the Eagles, who went to 14-4 overall. Geoff McCann scored six goals last Thursday in St. Francis' 15-10 victory over visiting Serra. The win put the Lancers at 3-0 in the West Catholic Athletic League and 21-3 overall. Mountain View sunk to 1-4 in the De Anza Division Oct. 27 with a 12-9 loss to visiting Palo Alto. Zack Mattos scored five goals for the Spartans. Girls Water Polo Pinewood School captured its first Private Schools Athletic League title in four years Oct. 26 with a 6-1 home win over defending champion Castilleja. By claiming the league crown, the Panthers (14-0, 17-3) earned an automatic berth in the Central Coast Section Division II team playoffs, which start Tuesday. Castilleja, winner of three straight league crowns, could not compete with a young but talented Pinewood team that boasts just one senior. Pinewood swept the singles portion of last week's match and three of the four wins came in straight sets. No. 1 player Megan Martin, a freshman, and No. 2 Paula Lea, a sophomore, both won 6-3, 6-2. Pinewood wasn't the only team to qualify for the postseason last week. Homestead beat Lynbrook 5-2 Thursday in a match that decided the SCVAL El Camino Division champion. The Mustangs (13-0, 15-2) won three singles matches and two doubles. Top player Rachel Pua posted a 6-1, 6-1 win and No. 2 Erin Hsu prevailed 7-6, 6-3. In SCVAL De Anza Division action, St. Francis took care of host Saratoga 5-2 last Thursday. The Lancers (11-1, 17-1) swept the singles side and received a 7-5, 6-2 win from the top doubles team of Sarah Delva-Sarah Collins. Singles players Laura Boskovich, Claire Najour, Megan Kawahara and Erin Hannon all won in straight sets. Mountain View won its first SCVAL El Camino Division game last Thursday, edging Cupertino 7-6. The host Spartans (1-7) were led by Meredith Legenos, who tallied three goals. Caitlin Barreto scored two goals Oct. 27 to lead Los Altos to a 6-3 win at Cupertino. The Eagles improved to 6-3 in the El Camino. St. Francis won the Halloween Classic last Sunday, edging Menlo 4-3 in the title game at Lincoln High. Kim Shelton scored three goals for the Lancers (21-4). |
