Elena Road in LAH closed through Nov. 19

A section of Elena Road located between Natoma Road and Purissima Road will be closed to traffic through Nov. 19, during the hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The road closure is necessary to improve the storm drain sysem.

Hidden Villa painted on Community Impact Day

During October, 20 volunteers from Community Impact painted the outside of a historic shed, and trim on the barn at Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills. The paint will protect the resources of the 1,600-acre working farm and wilderness preserve.

The volunteer effort at Hidden Villa was a part of Community Impact Day, the largest deployment of volunteers in a single day according to Community Impact officials. Approximately 2,000 Bay Area residents volunteered their time, representing 10,000 hours of community service in a single day.

Dance Dialogues at Los Altos Library

The San Jose Cleveland Ballet presents a program on "The Nutcracker: A child's Guide to Watching Ballet," at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 17 in the Program Room of the Los Altos Library. This program is the second in a series of Dance Dialogues.

The program's focus on the ballet company's season productions and are accompanied by video and/or slides.

New training sessions for museum docents

The Los Altos History House Museum welcomes new docents to lead tours of the house. Training sessions are scheduled for Nov. 17. For more information, call 948-9427 or 941-0950, ext. 126.

Hidden Villa reopens to public

Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills has reopened to the public from 9 a.m. until dusk, Tuesdays through Sundays. The farm had been closed since June while its summer camp programs were in progress.

Hidden Villa is also seeking volunteers to lend a hand in the organic gardens, greet visitors, help in the administrative offices, and lead farm tours. Program participants park free. For these and other volunteer opportunities, call 949-8655.

Local American Legion Post 558 receives award

The Los Altos American Legion Post 558 was honored with the "Community Service Award" at the state convention held recently in San Diego. The award was presented to the Post at the installation of new officers of Santa Clara County (District 13) for 1999-2000.

The award was for the best Post in Area 2, which encompasses San Francisco, Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, Monterey and Santa Cruz counties.

The award was presented by the state Community Services Commission.

Some of the activities undertaken by the Los Altos American Legion Post 558 include providing train rides at Christmastime and sponsoring flag projects downtown.

The oral history program of the Los Altos History House Association is looking for information about Page Mill Camp on Stanford property or Moffett Field during World War II.

CSA call for holiday volunteers

Community Services Agency invites residents to experience the spirit of the season by volunteering a few hours in the agency's Holiday Sharing Program.

The program involves sorting and organizing food or toys for distribution to low-income families. Drivers are needed to pick-up donations from local businesses. For more information and to volunteer, call 964-4630 or 968-0836.
