Bell recently returned to Los Altos, where she has taken a position as artisitc director of the Los Altos Youth Theatre production of "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." She was recently singing in "And the World Goes Round," a musical revue of the music of Kander and Ebb, at Piaf's Cabaret Theatre in San Francisco, that closed Oct. 9. Erica Hahn and Yurie Lee of Los Altos and Karen Wei of Los Altos Hills were among the 20 students at Menlo School to be honored as National Merit Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program. Nearly 1.2 million students in more than 20,000 high schools across the country entered the program as juniors by taking the 1998 preliminary SAT Qualifying Test. Fewer than 1 percent of the country's high school seniors were designated semifinalists. Meghan A. Mavity of Los Altos recently received a bachelor's degree in marketing from Michigan State University. Los Altos resident Vincent Dorie was among the 17 Bellarmine College Preparatory seniors named as a semifinalist in the 45th annual National Merit Scholarship Program in September. Tracy Enenstein, a junior at Homestead High School, recently won a $20,000 scholarship from the Silicon Valley Scholars. Only 15 students from Santa Clara County received the award. Los Altos residents Michael Owen Bligh, Michael Charles Manyon and Kristina Jurate McGovern enrolled at Southern Methodist University this fall. Grace Y. Ma of Los Altos entered the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in August as a first year student. Ma holds a bachelor's degree in genetics from the University of California at Davis. |
