The fund-raiser will feature an array of books including holiday gift books, parenting books and software. The fair will be held from noon to 4 p.m., Monday; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Dec. 2; and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dec. 3. There will be a special "Family Night" from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Dec. 2, that will include a drawing for a $25 gift certificate. For more information, call 949-1381. Registration begins at Foothill College Foothill College in Los Altos Hills is now accepting registration for its winter quarter, which begins the week of Jan. 3 and runs through March 24. Continuing, new and former students may register online or by phone from now until Dec. 28. Late in-person registration is Dec. 22 and Dec. 28 in the Admissions & Records Office at 12345 El Monte Road. To register, students should purchase the "Winter-Spring Schedule of Classes" for $2, available at Longs Drugs, McWhorter's Stationers and Walgreens. Holiday tree lot benefits schools The Los Altos Kiwanis Club will donate money to local schools with the purchase of trees from its Holiday Tree Lot, which is scheduled to open Saturday at the Bank of America parking lot in Loyola Corners, 901 Fremont Ave., Los Altos. The club will donate from $5 to $10 per tree to the following schools: Almond, Bullis-Purissima, Montclaire, Oak, Resurrection, Santa Rita, Springer, Loyola, St. Nicholas and St. Simon, Starfire Singers; Blach, Egan and Cupertino junior highs; and Homestead, Los Altos, Mountain View and St. Francis high schools. Customers may select the school to receive their donation at the time of purchase. The amount reflects the size and cost of each tree. The lot will feature noble fir and grand fir trees, wreaths and garlands. Delivery is available. The lot will be open from noon to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday through Dec. 21. For more information, call 941-3123. Child-care spaces available at Foothill The Foothill Child Development Center is currently accepting applications for children of students who intend to enroll in winter quarter classes. YWCA holds 'Craft & Cocoa' The Palo Alto YWCA will hold a series of weekly family holiday gatherings throughout December. The "Story, Craft & Cocoa" sessions will feature stories, art projects and snacks that focus on different winter holidays including sessions for Hanukkah, Dec. 7; Kwaanza, Dec. 14; and Christmas, Dec. 21. Duracell sponsors 'Invention Challenge' Duracell and the National Science Teachers Association are inviting students in grades 6-12 to participate in the 18th annual Duracell/NSTA Invention Challenge. The nationwide contest will present $160,000 in savings bonds as awards. To enter, students must design and build a battery-powered device and submit an official entry form, essay, wiring diagram and photos of the invention by Jan. 12, 2000.
