Running for state

Woodward Park, in Fresno is once again the site for the CIF State Cross Country Championships, set for Saturday. The St. Francis girls and boys teams have both qualified for the meet, along with individuals John Fong of Los Altos High and Yasemin Kimyacioglu of Pinewood.

On the right track

Lianne Van den Bosch of Los Altos Hills and Arwen Bradley of Mountain View were among nine members of the Palo Alto Lightning Track & Field Club who competed in the Cross Country Junior Olympics Nov. 14 in San Jose. The Lightning is a year-round club for boys and girls interested in developing their racing skills. For more information, call 321-2175.

Feng nominated

Gunn High senior Christine Feng of Los Altos Hills has been nominated for the 1999 Wendy's High School Heisman Award. Established in 1994, the High School Heisman recognizes senior students across the country who have excelled in academics, community involvement and athletics. The finalists will be announced in December. Feng is a member of the Gunn girls tennis team, which made it to the CCS quarterfinals.

Play ball

Mountain View Little League is taking sign-ups by mail for its spring 2000 season. Age levels go from 5-12 and divisions include T-ball, pitching machine, Minors, Majors and softball. Local bike rides

The Bicycle Outfitter, 963 Fremont Ave., Los Altos, holds free local bike rides Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Rides start behind the store. Helmets are mandatory, and riders of all levels welcome. For more information, call 948-8092.
