The programming is in recognition of World AIDS Day, Dec. 1. Produced in 1989 by the Rotary Club of Los Altos, "The Los Altos Story" documents the story of how AIDS changed the lives of three Rotarians, their friends, families and the entire community. The film received national media attention when it was originally shown. It has won a variety of awards, including the George F. Peabody Award for broadcast excellence and cable TV's Ace award for best public affairs special. Designed to alert and educate Rotarians worldwide about the AIDS pandemic, "The Los Altos Story" has been viewed by millions, generating thousands of letters and phone calls to the Rotary Club of Los Altos. The overwhelming number of responses share stories, emotional outpourings and heartfelt thanks. As a result, AIDS projects and programs have been initiated to help change attitudes and behaviors, as well as to educate others about AIDS throughout the world.
