Pulitzer Prize winner to take Celebrity Forum stage this Friday

Foothill College's 32nd Celebrity Forum is under way, held at Flint Center on the De Anza College campus.

The series is usually sold out for each performance. However there may still be tickets available for repeat performances at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts.

For ticket information, call 949-7625.

Doors open an hour prior to each lecture. The total program lasts approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. Guests may take questions after a lecture.

The 1999-2000 list of speakers are:

Friday, 8 p.m.: Frank McCourt

The Pulitzer Prize winning author of Angela's Ashes, McCourt will speak after the much awaited sequel and the movie and are out.

Jan. 14, 8 p.m.: Shimon Peres

Former three-time prime minister and winner of the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize, Peres will speak about his legendary part of history.

Feb. 18, 8 p.m.: Mario Cuomo vs. Alan Simpson

The program will be one month before the California primaries. Cuomo, former three-term governor of New York, will debate Simpson, former governor of Wyoming and U.S. senator.

March 10, 8 p.m.: Arianna Huffington vs. Bill Press

One week after the primaries, Arianna Huffington, syndicated columnist and author, will debate Bill Press, dynamic host of Crossfire.

April 14, 8 p.m.: Bob Ballard and Jean-Michel Cousteau

Ballard is a deep-sea explorer and the discoverer of the Titanic, while Cousteau has spent his life exploring the world's oceans.

May 2, 7:30 p.m.: Harry Belafonte

The acknowledged "King of Calypso" will talk about his varied life as a performer and activist. Film clips will be shown.
