Los Altos Girl Scouts presented American Legion Post 558 with an award for community partnership between the two organizations at the Oct. 6 Legion meeting in Los Altos.

Girl Scout representatives Katherine and Andrea Gorman, and Meg Solera, presented the Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County 1999 Community Partnership Award. Accepting the honor was Legion representative Henry J. Nagao.

The Los Altos American Legion post participated in the American Flag project with Troop 75.

Commander Lewis B. Miller called receiving the award "quite an honor" and placed it in the Club Room trophy case.

Solera thanked the American Legion for supporting the Girl Scouts and giving Service Unit 8 the opportunity to participate in the American flag project.

She also noted the success of Girl Scouts Service Unit 8, which boasts 80 troops and more than 1,000 girls. She said one out of every three school-age girls in Los Altos is a member of the Girl Scouts.

Miller said the American Legion and the Girl Scouts joined together this past spring when both groups were looking to do a community project.

The American Legion joins the Girl Scouts in celebrating this California state record. Commander Miller calls the record "a remarkable one and something to be proud of."
