Truck of Love needs help to help

Pete Fullerton and his Truck of Love have their work cut out for them. Right now, he is trying to make sure that local families have a reason to celebrate this holiday season.

He has 175 families to provide for in the next two weeks, and is desperately looking for volunteers to help him out.

"I've never been in this position before," Fullerton said. Helping his targeted 175 families will require many more donations from the community, according to the former Mountain View resident who started Truck of Love 13 years ago. Truck of Love is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) corporation.

Volunteers can choose to either "adopt a family," purchasing food and gifts themselves, or donate money. Fullerton is seeking $25 per person per family for gifts, and $10 per person per family for meals. All food, gifts, and money need to be in by Dec. 18.

To volunteer, or to ask more questions, call Fullerton at (408) 295-7320 or e-mail him at peteandsue@netgate.net.

Library used for charity drop-offs

The Second Harvest Food Bank and the Community Services Agency are both using the Los Altos maun library as a collection site for food and toys. The donations benefit the less fortunate members of the community living in the Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills areas.

Toys can be donated through Dec. 18, and food through Jan. 7. The food that is especially needed includes soup, beans, dry pasta, cake mix, peanut butter, evaporated milk, and canned fruits, vegetables, and meats.

The library is located at 13 S. San Antonio Road, Los Altos. For more information, call the reference desk at 948-7683, ext. 3519.

Newcomers Club Christmas luncheon

The Los Altos Newcomers Club welcomes prospective members to a Christmas luncheon, scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Dec. 15, at Beausejour restaurant, 170 State St., Los Altos.

Guests will be treated to a French culinary experience, according to member Celeste Hetzler.

Cost is $25 per person. Checks for the luncheon are due by Friday. For more information, call Hetzler at 949-3061.

Volunteering for the holidays

The Community Services Agency is in need of volunteers for its annual Holiday Sharing Program to help organize toys for local low-income children.
