Gunilla Cook, executive director of the event, said the opportunity to purchase tickets has almost run out. "We expect a sellout," Cook said. "Our capacity is for 350 dinner guests and 1,000 countdown party tickets based on the size of the facilities to which we are committed." As of press time, 320 dinner tickets, at $450 each, have been paid for and 910 have ordered $75 tickets for the 10:30 p.m. party. "The best part," Cook said, "is that our budget needs have been met through ticket sales and underwriting support." Ticket buyers are allowed a tax deduction for a portion of the ticket price since the event it a non-profit community project. As budgeted, organizers expect proceeds will provide a modest contribution to the new History House Education Center now under construction. The event, held in a large, climate-controlled tent, will feature dinner and dancing to the music of two bands. Guests for the dinner have their choice of three entrees. A "surprise extravaganza" is planned for midnight, organizers said. The celebration is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. on the grounds of the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos.
