Mountain View and Palo Alto police are warning residents of a man suspected of assaulting women with a knife in Mountain View and Palo Alto over the past 10 months. Police said last week that they were investigating one attack last month in each city that they believe could be related to the previous attacks. Police describe the attacker as 5-feet-7 to 5-feet-9 with a thin to medium build and facial acne. The attacks typically occur between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., according to police. Mountain View police said between March and May they received four reported assaults on Latham Street, between Showers Drive Rengstorff Avenue, where a man with a knife jumped out of bushes and attacked women walking alone. On Nov. 13, a man attacked a woman walking through a parking lot on the corner of Fayette Drive and San Antonio Road in Mountain View. One week later, on Nov. 20, a woman and her friend were walking on Charleston Road in Palo Alto when she was attacked by a man with knife. The woman escaped when a passing motorist distracted the man, according to Palo Alto police. Police offered the following safety tips: Don't walk alone at night; be aware of your surroundings; go to an occupied residence or business, and report anything suspicious to the police. Anyone with information about these crimes should call Mountain View Police Detective Chris Hsiung at 903-6711, or call Palo Alto Police Detective Ron Watson at 329-2257. |
