Penny Pompei, executive director of the Silicon Valley Association of Realtors, opened the association's holiday program Dec. 10 at Michael's at Shoreline by saying 1999 was a bizarre year, and she hoped the year 2000 would be just as bizarre.

"When you have a good year, you have to give back to the community, and I am glad to announce we are providing $1,250 to sponsor the Youth Arcade for the Los Altos/Los Altos Hills Millennium," Pompei said.

Alice Tuvell, Los Altos/Mountain View district chairperson and mistress of ceremonies for the awards program, said the recent Casino Night event raised $5,282 for the Community Services Agency. Bob Morton of Coldwell Banker Gateway announced an additional $1,200 was raised at the realtors' awards ceremony.

District events in which the realtors participated in 1999 included the Community Service Award luncheon, Los Altos Art & Wine Festival, the "Welcome to Los Altos" community mural, and the "It's a Small World" float in the Festival of Lights Parade.

Mickey Shaevitz was elected chairperson for the district council in 2000.

Judy Bogard, achievement award committee chairperson, congratulated the 88 award recipients for their outstanding sales performances over the past year.

"It must have been a good year because we have doubled the amount of recipients from last year," Bogard said. "This year 88 people will receive awards."

The new Life Membership Awards were presented to realtors who have received the Achievement Award for five years. They are Tim Anderson and Maisey Young, Alain Pinel Realtors; Lissi Bedford and Anne Ward, Fine Homes & Estates Seville; and Royce Cabalyan, Barbara Ann Cannon and Chuck Lane of Coldwell Banker.

An additional award was given to Joe Leal, who sold his house and is moving to Las Vegas. Leal has been the Friday tour meeting host, presenting speakers and topics of interest to realtors.
