Nearly 43,000 colorful hand-made panels in the quilt commemorate the lives of 83,279 people lost to AIDS, approximately 20 percent of all U.S. AIDS patients. The quilts also represent the sorrow, anger, love and hope of the diverse people who created the panels. The exhibit is open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 1 p.m. and one hour prior to any performance at the Center for Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. For more information, call 961-0342 ext. 303. Library used for charity drop-offs The Second Harvest Food Bank and the Community Services Agency are both using the Los Altos main library as a collection site for food and toys. The donations benefit the less fortunate members of the community living in the Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills areas. Food can be donated through Jan. 7. The food that is especially needed includes soup, beans, dry pasta, cake mix, peanut butter, evaporated milk, and canned fruits, vegetables, and meats. The library is located at 13 S. Twelfth Night concert and dessert Celebrate the Twelfth day of Christmas and the end of the holiday season with Mountain View High School Madrigal and Chamber Choirs. They are hosting a fundraising event, "A Twelfth Night Concert and Dessert" at 7 p.m., Jan. 6, at Los Altos United Methodist Church Creekside Room, 655 Magdalena Ave. Pre-order your tickets by calling 967-7585 or 940-4649. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students/children. After-dinner tickets sold out for celebration The $75 after-dinner tickets for the Dec. 31 Los Altos and Los Altos Hills Millennium Celebration are now sold out, according to organizers. However, tickets remain for the dinner, at $450 per person. The event is scheduled to ring in the new year and new century at 7 p.m., on the grounds of the Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave. Up to 1,200 people are expected to usher in the Millennium by dining on a gourmet dinner and dancing to the music of two bands.
