LASD holds kindergarten meetings

The Los Altos School District will conduct information meetings on Jan. 20 and 25 for parents of children who will begin kindergarten in fall 2000. The meetings will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Almond School multipurpose room at 550 Almond Ave, Los Altos.

To be eligible for the district's kindergarten program, children must be 5 years old on or before Dec. 2, 2000 and reside within the boundaries of the Los Altos School District. Preregistration will begin at all six schools on Feb. 3, 2000.

Slater Elementary gets an early Christmas

Students at Mountain View Academy threw an early Christmas party for first through fifth-graders from Slater Elementary School in Mountain View on Dec. 17.

Each elementary school student paired with a high schooler for the day.

The students gathered in the cafeteria for prayers and Christmas carols before the seniors presented gifts to their partners.

The students then went to the Academy's chapel for a science presentation.

MVLA Adult School seeks volunteers

The Mountain View-Los Altos Adult School needs volunteers for their "Literacy in the Classroom" program. Volunteers would work with a second grader on Tuesday mornings during the winter."

Volunteer training begins 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 25.

Americans feel schools need improvement

The Center for Education Reform's recent survey, "On Thin Ice," reports that most Americans think schools in their community need improvement, particularily in the area of school safety.
