Dog chases mountain lion up tree

Dogs never seem to shed their instinctual pursuit of cats. Even if that feline is actually a 120-pound mountain lion.

A Los Altos Hills resident’s approximately 80-pound German Shepherd chased the cat up a tree on his property early Tuesday morning, according to the town’s public safety officer. While city officials wait for developer Jeffrey A. Morris to submit final plans for an office-retail building at Main and First streets, questions remain as to whether the city’s process produced the optimal result.

The 0.78-acre site, former site of a KFC franchise, has remained undeveloped since the city purchased the land for parking in 1995. A hotel planned and approved for the site never materialized after the developers withdrew.

It’s often called the Venice of America or the Coney Island of the Pacific, but Venice is classic Southern California. It’s a bit edgy compared to Carmel or Napa, but it’s a good place to visit with teenagers.

“You know it’s kind of gritty here, don’t you?” asked our Los Angeles relative as we made plans for dinner.
